Open Mic Night – October 2025

Open Mic Night – October 2025

The Prince George’s Soil Conservation District and Bloomin’ PGC Partners invite you to participate in our upcoming Urban Farmers & Growers Open Mic Night! This event is a platform for the urban farm community to collaborate and share useful information. While the focus is on urban ag conservation, any topic is open for discussion. All farmers (not just PGC urban farms) and growers are welcome to join us!
This month, join Kayla Griffith from the University of Maryland Extension’s Agricultural Nutrient Management Program and learn about the state’s nutrient management requirements, with a focus on record-keeping. Kayla will provide practical tips and templates to help you prepare for your first Nutrient Management Plan (NMP). She’ll also discuss NMP resources, including how to find an advisor to assist you with preparing your plan. Finally, Kayla will review a sample NMPs to help you understand the importance of completing a plan and how the record keeping and data collection fit together.
Kayla provides education and outreach on nutrient management plan development to farmers, private consultants, and UMD nutrient management advisors. She earned her B.S. in Biology from Michigan Technological University, a M.S. in Agronomy from Iowa State University where her thesis research focused on graduate-level soil science education for distance education students, and a graduate certificate in Leadership and Management from University of Maryland Global Campus. She is also a certified nutrient management consultant and a Certified Crop Advisor.
We’ll also hear updates from the Maryland Department of Agriculture’s Small Farm and Urban Agriculture Program.
*** THIS MONTH’S OPEN MIC NIGHT WILL BE HYBRID (IN-PERSON PARTICIPATION IS STILL PREFERRED!) ***
