Environment, Agriculture & Natural Resources Program

Woman holding an objectThe District serves on the Environment, Agricultural, and Natural Resources Program Advisory Committee for the Prince George’s County Public School System and supports bringing agriculture and environmental science career opportunities to our County’s high school youth. The program is hosted at three schools: Fairmont Heights High School, Gwynn Park High School, and High Point High School.

The Environmental, Agricultural, and Natural Resources Program embraces an interdisciplinary approach to the study of earth systems and the human impact on the environment. The course of study is built on obtaining a solid foundation of biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics. Students successfully completing the programs of study are equipped to pursue areas of study in college and the expanding career fields related to environmental science.

The Program currently features the Curriculum for Agricultural Science Education (CASE) with two pathways: Animal Science and Natural Resources.

Animal Science involves the study of communication, the science of agriculture, plants, animals, natural resources, and agricultural mechanics. While surveying the opportunities available in agriculture and natural resources, students will learn to solve problems, conduct research, analyze data, work in teams, and take responsibility for their work, actions, and learning.

The Natural Resources program of study is composed of a four-course sequence that covers environmental, agricultural and natural resource issues and management. Students will engage in scientific inquiry related to local and regional environmental problems and issues in natural resources management.
