BLOOMIN’ PGC URBAN FARMER OPEN MIC NIGHT (JULY 2022)

The Prince George’s Soil Conservation District, along with Bloomin’ PGC partners and local urban farming advocates, invite you to participate in our Monthly Urban Farmers & Growers Open Mic Night! Held on Zoom, this event is a platform for the urban farm community to collaborate and share useful information. Any urban farming-related topics—land leases, equipment and supplies, staffing and volunteering, resource-sharing, grants, and mental health—are all welcome to discuss.

Farmers are invited to share their enterprises, as well as discuss challenges and opportunities they face in growing for-profit and donations in Prince George’s County. Join our monthly meet-ups to ask and answer questions, share your signature growing tips, discuss the latest news in the urban Ag industry, or even blow off some steam. (We know that pesky groundhog is driving you nuts!).

In addition, this is a great time for you to share recommended tips, resources, and upcoming events.

*** THIS MONTH ***

Did you know that the County Council passed an Urban Ag Property Tax Credit in 2015 (CB-74-2015)? The purpose of the tax credit is to incentivize urban farmers to start enterprises in the Priority Funding Area of Prince George’s County. Unfortunately, few urban farmers have taken advantage of the property tax credit. We have a few ideas on how we may improve the tax credit, but we’d like to hear from you! Join the Food Equity Council for a discussion on the history and intent of the tax credit, as well as participate in an opportunity to provide feedback on how we can work with stakeholders and County Council to make it worth your while.

The District encourages urban farmers and other growers of all skill levels to attend. We look forward to working with the community to grow new and existing urban farms and community gardens in Prince George’s County!

Bloomin’ PGC is an initiative launched by the Prince George’s County Food Equity Council in partnership with the Prince George’s Soil Conservation District, the University of Maryland Extension in Prince George’s County, ECO City Farms, Maryland-National Capital Park & Planning Commission, and the Prince George’s County Department of the Environment to support the growing urban agriculture movement in Prince George’s County.
