• Jon Traunfeld discusses climate-resilient gardening, the importance of healthy soil, and heat-tolerant vegetable varieties. Jon is Program Director, University of Maryland Extension, Home & Garden Information Center.
• Esther Mitchell moderates a discussion of your community garden’s your community garden’s new ideas, challenges & successes. Esther is Horticulture and Master Gardener Coordinator, University of Maryland Extension and Prince George’s County Department of the Environment.
• Learn about funding opportunities for soil and water conservation practices such as high tunnel systems and raised beds from Colleen Kiefer of the Natural Resources Conservation Service and Kim Rush Lynch of the Prince George’s Soil Conservation District. Hear about how the District’s Urban Ag Conservation program assists urban farms and community gardens.
• Tour the Urban Farm Incubator at Watkins Regional Park to see the work of beginning farmers using regenerative, certified naturally-grown, and organically-grown agricultural best practices.
